COVID Collaboration

Here is your chance to be part of a unique and innovative creation! We have teamed up with composer Chris Sivak to create a multimedia composition that will include anyone who wants to participate!

Inspired by the profound impact of COVID-19 on the world, Chris Sivak has composed music to Walt Whitman’s text “On the Beach at Night Alone”. The piece has three layers. The first layer is music that is being recorded by Vox Humana Chamber Choir and Edmonton’s Chronos Vocal Ensemble. The second layer is music that is designed to be easily recorded by ANY singer who is comfortable singing in tune and reading music. The third layer is not specifically music, but any media (pictures, videos, or audio) that people want to submit.

Second Layer – for Singers
Are you a singer? If so, we have music for you to record and send to us and we’ll make it part of the composition! Participating in this piece is easier than most virtual choir pieces – there is a lot of flexibility. There’s no click track to sing to or conductor video to follow. Just click on the “For Singers” button at the bottom of this page for more information, the music, and to submit your recording.

Third Layer – for anyone
We want to you to submit sights and sounds of the pandemic. What do you notice differently since the pandemic began? Perhaps the sound of a bird, or an empty bench, or the space between people? Next time you do, take a picture or a video, or better yet, write a few words about it. You do not need to be a singer to participate! Just click on the “For General Public” button below for more information and to submit your media.

The deadline to submit is September 15th for all submissions. The final product will include all audio material layered with visual media to create a video to accompany the music. All submissions will be credited.
