Auditions

Call for Auditions
Vox Humana Chamber Choir is auditioning singers of all voice types to be part of the 2018-2019 concert season.

If you enjoy performing lesser-known repertoire, works that are newly commissioned, as well as performing with the Victoria Symphony, then Vox Humana Chamber Choir might be the right ensemble for you.

Audition Candidate
Persons of any age who possess a high level of musicianship, strong sight-reading skills, vocal technique and flexibility, and a desire to be challenged in an ensemble environment are invited to audition.

It is expected that members of Vox Humana will invest time in their musicianship and vocal ability through individual practice and training, and that material will be prepared prior to and between rehearsals as necessary. The choir rehearses regularly throughout the choral season, from end of August through May, with rehearsals primarily on Monday nights from 7pm-9:30pm.

Interview/auditions for qualified singers will include a brief interview, range test and sight-reading. A prepared piece is not required.

Please email [email protected] to sign up for an audition time. Auditions will take place through June 2018 and later in the summer as needed.

About Vox Humana
Since its founding in 2002, the mixed-voice ensemble Vox Humana has established itself as Victoria’s premier chamber choir. Under the direction of Brian Wismath, its core group of 25 singers ranges from advanced students to professional musicians. As part of its regular concert season from September to June, Vox Humana presents six to eight different programmes of diverse repertoire. Their artistic mandate includes the presentation of new music; their repertoire history includes a number of commissions and Canadian premieres. In addition to their self-produced concerts, Vox Humana is a frequent artistic collaborator with other groups; since 2011 they have appeared annually with the Victoria Symphony in works as diverse as Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Britten’s War Requiem. Two of Vox’s annual traditions have become sold-out favourites: Vox in the Stars, a performance in the dome housing the Plaskett Telescope at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Saanich, BC, and A Child’s Christmas in Wales, a concert of seasonal music centered on a reading of the beloved Dylan Thomas story.
